#81 Butch's Phantom - Darren MacEachern

Tied by: Darren MacEachern
Originated by: Earl “Butch” Carey
Sources: Trolling Flies for Trout and Salmon; Leeman / Stewart Pg. 96

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley Streamer #1 6xl
Thread: Black
Tail: Orange hackle fiber
Body: Orange floss
Rib: Silver embossed tinsel with the first 3 wraps wound close together
Underwing: White bucktail
Wing: 2 orange hackles flanked by black hackles
Shoulder: Silver pheasant body
Eyes: Jungle cock
Head: Black

Notes: The original Butch’s Phantom has a painted eye and no jungle cock. With the silver pheasant shoulder, this Phantom is only a bit of peacock herl and some golden pheasant crest away from being Butch’s ghost. I am a fan of the orange under black wing and it can be seen in a few of my own creations such as the Broad Street Bully or Carrie Stevens’ Allie’s Favorite.

Darren MacEachern – Darren has been fishing from the age of 4 all across Canada. He started on the east coast in Prince Edward Island before moving west to the banks of the Bow River in Calgary Alberta. He now resides just outside of Toronto, fishing the Great Lakes and the fine tributary waters around.
