Notes: The Primary Smelt is one of several from a series of “Primary” flies designed by Ken in 2011. All of the streamers in the series use a red, yellow and blue color scheme, drawing on past creations such as the Footer’s Special and Guide’s Special. The Primary Smelt relies heavily on the blue influence, and with the strong markings of the blue grizzly hackle, this should be cast with confidence.

Ken Craigue, Jr – Ken grew up near the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in Melvin Village, NH. As a young boy he fished the big lake and the lakes region. At ten years old, in 1972, Ken discovered fly tying and was immediately hooked.

Thanks Kelly. This was my fav of the first three in the series. I’m going to see how the fish like them in two weeks here. My 50th b-day present is a week on Mooselook so I’m pretty excited about that.

  2. Kelly L says:

Lovely fly. The colors are outstanding. You did a great job on this fly!
