Hook: #1 8xl Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Carrie Stevens Rangeley Streamer Hook
Thread: Black flat waxed nylon
Tag: Gold flat tinsel
Tail: Red schlappen
Body: Black floss
Ribbing: Flat gold tinsel
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Red schlappen
Wing: 2 black hackles flanked by grizzly dyed olive
Shoulder: Red golden pheasant
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black

Notes: This fly was tied to imitate a Pearl Dace. The black is placed behind the olive so that the true color of the dace comes through when wet. I came up with pattern after seeing large trout chase these dark minnows in the shallows. The water would erupt when the trout came in, and I was able to catch a few to study closer. The name pays homage to an ancestor who died at the turn of the 19th century.
