#167 Washington – Team Colors Collection – Don Soar

Tied by: Don Soar
Originated by: Don Soar

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley Streamer hook 8xl
Thread: White
Tail: Golden pheasant yellow body fibers
Body: Burgundy floss
Rib: Gold embossed tinsel
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Burgundy hackle fibers
Wing: Four burgundy hackles
Shoulder: Golden pheasant yellow body feather then tragopan
Head: Black

Notes: Claret and burgundy streamers can be tough to come by and some tyers and anglers place them among the top colors to fish with. The Washington TCC blends the colors of the Washington Redskins into a beautiful harmonious streamer. The yellow golden pheasant feathers perfectly contrast the deep woody clarets, and the use of the tragopan feather for the eye gives this streamer a unique look. The Redskins franchise started out in Boston in the 1930’s as the Boston Braves before being moved to D.C. several year later.

Don Soar – Born and raised in central Massachusetts now living in Lancaster with my wife of twenty years Nancy. Fishing started young in life tagging along with my brothers. I took up fly fishing in the early 90’s. Ten years later I started tying flies. After meeting Mike Martinek Jr. at a local fly shop I was introduced to the dark side of fly tying, the long fly.
