Notes: Through Don’s journey around the NFL, he has taken many techniques from the pioneers of the long fly. For the Houston streamer, Don calls upon Austin Hogan’s half stripped feather method of combining color in the wing. The Texans joined the NFL in 2002 as an expansion team. The previous Houston team, the Oilers had since moved to Nashville, becoming the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, when the expansion team formed, the name Oilers wasn’t available, and so the new moniker was chosen via an online survey or 5 narrowed down choices.

Don Soar – Born and raised in central Massachusetts now living in Lancaster with my wife of twenty years Nancy. Fishing started young in life tagging along with my brothers. I took up fly fishing in the early 90’s. Ten years later I started tying flies. After meeting Mike Martinek Jr. at a local fly shop I was introduced to the dark side of fly tying, the long fly.
