#223 Wee Steelie – Eunan Hendron

Tied by: Eunan Hendron
Originated by: Eunan Hendron

Hook: Mike Martinek Carrie Stevens Rangeley streamer hook #2 8xl
Thread: White
Body: White floss
Rib : Flat blue tinsel
Throat/Belly: Black goose shoulder 4-5 slips, left and right
Wing: Blue hackle flanked by pink hackle flanked by grey hackle
Shoulder: Jungle cock body feather
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: White

Notes: Eunan notes his inspiration came from seeing other small fish imitations such as brook and brown trout with little regard to the chrome steelhead. His pattern brings influence from traditional steelhead pink and blue, Chum Candy if you will, combined with the natural colors found on small Oncorhynchus mykiss. Eunan included the jungle cock shoulder to provide a lateral line and a focal point predators could hone in on.

Eunan Hendron – I’ve been tying flies since I was about 10 or 11, a direct progression from fishing stillwater team competitions with my father as a young boy. I began tying classic flies (wet, streamer and atlantic salmon) towards the end of 2011, having never tied them before. A pretty steep learning curve, not for the feint of heart, but many thanks are due to the members of various forums who gave me tips and constructive criticism to aid my progression.
