Notes: The San Francisco 49ers were founded in 1946. The team name “49ers” comes from the nickname given to the flock of prospectors migrating to northern California around 1849 in search of gold, fame and fortune. The name was suggested to reflect California history and pay homage to the pioneer voyagers who had rushed the West for gold. The red and gold looks incredible, and Don’s selection of brilliantly colored wood duck really captures the team’s spirit.

Don Soar – Born and raised in central Massachusetts now living in Lancaster with my wife of twenty years Nancy. Fishing started young in life tagging along with my brothers. I took up fly fishing in the early 90’s. Ten years later I started tying flies. After meeting Mike Martinek Jr. at a local fly shop I was introduced to the dark side of fly tying, the long fly.
