Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley Streamer hook 8xl
Tag: Silver holographic tinsel
Body: Light olive floss
Ribbing: Silver holographic tinsel
Under-shoulder: Red and grey hackle fibers
Throat: Red and grey hackle fibers
Wing: Golden olive hackle flanked by white hackle flanked by light dun hackle
Shoulder: Coral blue guinea fowl
Topping: Silver pheasant crest
Eyes: Jungle cock
Notes: The wing is a light fresh blend of colour with hints of olive peaking out from behind the silvery exterior. The sweeping pheasant crest topping creates a distinct back to this striking smelt imitation. If you are in a pinch, and find yourself short of the black silver pheasant crest, some fine peacock herl from an eye or fine black marabou to use as a replacement. The silver pheasant crest is much softer than its golden counterpart and therefore moves more naturally in the water.
Bill Chandler – I have been tying flies for the Angler and the collector since 1978. I discovered fly fishing and fly tying by watching a Canadian angling show one Saturday morning. Since then I have spent a considerable time of my life learning both the old and new techniques of tying flies.
