Notes: This pattern was named in honor of Harry Gross, arguably the finest classic streamer tier in the western USA. Sadly, Harry passed away in the fall of 2010. I was fortunate to know him as a friend, mentor, and fishing buddy. His gorgeous feather-wing streamers had quite an impact on me and inspired me to begin my own experiments with this style of fly. Although I am still a rookie when it comes to dressing Rangeley-style streamers, I’d like to think Harry would be pleased that I am trying to take what he taught me and use it to move the art form forward, just as he did.
Jon Harrang – Jon lives on a mini-ranch/fixer-upper in central Oregon’s high desert with his wife and three daughters. He has been tying flies since he was in grade school, with a special emphasis on dressing both steelhead and Atlantic salmon patterns. He is relatively new to the streamer game but very interested in improving his skills and continuing to learn more about this style of fly.
