Carrie Stevens Day Dedication Booklet 1970

Carrie Stevens Day dedication booklet 1970

For all the collectors out there, here is one of the Carrie Stevens dedication booklets. I don’t see these often, so I don’t expect that this will last long. The 12 page booklets were printed and distributed for Maine‘s, and Rangeley’s, recognition of the famous pioneering fly tier. The celebration took place in August of 1970, honoring Carrie’s contribution to the state and to the sport.

Herb Johnson Bucktails

I can hardly believe that the fall is almost here. I’ve been checking out the salmon returning to the tributaries this past week and am glad to see more than I have the past couple years. The project is starting to roll in now, and it’s been awesome to see all the classic and original streamers coming in.

Tony Smith has donated a set of streamers to the project and has included an addition 2 bucktails that I will be giving away on October 31st, 2011. These streamers will kick off our fundraising element of the project. I’m hoping to raise $1800 through the Streamers 365 project to donate to the six organizations (details here). I’ll be picking 2 names at random from everyone who donates $1 or more to the project before October 31st. Just click the “Donate Now” below to get started. And if you don’t happen to be drawn for these streamers, we’ll have more offered throughout the year, and you donation carries through.

Tony Smith - Fly Tyer Tony Smith – Anthony (Tony) Smith began tying flies with his LL Bean fly tying kit that he received from his parents for Christmas 1988. From tying commercially for his high school “job” for the likes of Hunter’s Angling and American Angling Supplies, to having his flies sought for various publications, Tony is proud to have his work be of known quality.

Allcock W212 Streamer Hook.

Here is an interesting streamer hook I found a couple years back. I’ve never seen it up for auction again or have seen any reference to it elsewhere. I managed to get about a dozen of each size and may put together a few sample packs (1 hook each size) for anyone wanting to make a donation to the project. Let me know if something like that would interest you, and I may consider doing the same for some of the other hooks I have available.

Research Research Research!

I’ve been busy tying a few more streamers (hopefully you’ll really like these) and researching some of the classics that will be included in the project. Just a quick snap of some of my research material. Just 4 months to go until the streamers start… well flying!

White Ghost Step by Step Tutorial

White Ghost Streamer

I don’t see too many tutorials or step by step articles on how to properly tie up Carrie Stevens patterns. I did however find this wonderful photo tutorial by Eric Austin on tying the White Ghost (Thanks for not doing the Gray Ghost) using the pre-assembled wing technique. So while we wait for the start of the Streamers365 to begin, hopefully this can be a bit of a distraction and inspire a few to tie a few classics.

R79 vs 94720

Just uploaded these 2 to the hook archive. The newer R79 is a bit shorter, with a thicker wire and micro barb. It’s a much nicer hook to tie on than the older 94720, which feels like tying on overcooked spaghetti.
