Tom’s Biography

I’m from northern California and am a self taught fly fisher and tier. I’ve fished all over the western U.S. I have a real love for small mountain streams, but cut my teeth on the wild trout of the lower Sacramento River.

I attempted to learn fly tying many years ago with the first fly being a winged Royal Coachman; bad place to start as I failed miserably. I started fly fishing in the mid 1980’s and fly tying in 2000. My first patterns were very simple nymphs, but as time went by they became more and more complicated. I can now tie that Royal Coachman.

I started to follow the Streamers 365 project in 2012. Mike Boyer’s work inspired me to start tying streamers when I was lucky enough to have a winning bid on one of his flies.

I also frame flies for display; some of which can be seen on the Fly Tyers Forum. Please visit theartofthefly.com to see more of my work.
